Using the Epilog Laser
The Epilog Laser allows you to cut and engrave wood and other materials
using a high powered laser. The design to be cut or engraved is drawn
on a computer and the sent to the Epilog Laser much like a document or
photo is sent to a computer printer. The recommended program for drawing
your images is Corel Draw but many other vector based drawing programs can
be used.
Computer
The Sawdust Shop has a computer connected to the Epilog Laser for your use.
This computer is loaded with Corel Draw and the Epilog Drivers. You have
three options for laser cutting your design.
- You can use The Sawdust Shop computer to draw your designs
- Draw your designs on your own computer and transfer them to The Sawdust Shop computer
- Bring your own laptop computer and connect it to the Epilog Laser directly.

Restrictions
The Epilog Laser is intended for non-commercial use. This basically means
we dont want you using it to mass produce items that you then sell, or
use it to start your own side business as a sign maker or engraver.
Orientation Classes
Prior to using the Epilog Laser you must take an orientation class. This
class is free and is offered on a regular basis. The class will describe
the basic use of the laser, how to setup your material in the laser, what
materials can be cut, and basics on how to send files from the computer
to the laser. Click here

Reserving Time
Due to high demand for the Epilog Laser you must reserve your time on
the laser. Click here to reserve your time slot.
Rules for using the Epilog Laser
- You must supervise the laser while engraving and cutting. Flareups and fire are a possibility
when using the laser so please keep an eye on your work.
- Please ask a Sawdust Shop employee before cutting or engraving any material besides wood,
acrylic, or glass. Some materials can release toxic fumes when engraved so please confirm
all unusual materials prior to cutting.
